Meet the instructor

Sreevalli Atluru, MD

Sreevalli (Sree) Atluru graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and attended medical school at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She completed a four-year family medicine residency in Oregon. Her fourth year was spent primarily caring for inpatient and pregnant people with substance use disorders. She now works as a primary care clinician.

Tanya Kraege, LCSW, CSAC, WICPS

Tanya Kraege is the Director of Peer Services at Safe Communities Madison Dane County. Tanya works alongside people experiencing substance use and other challenges. Currently, she oversees programs that use Recovery Coaches and Certified Peer Specialists who work in various environments in Dane, Rock, and Jefferson Counties.

Learning Outcomes

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
  • Describe common pathways and contributing factors that can lead to substance use during pregnancy, including trauma, social determinants of health, and barriers to care.
  • Identify and use person-centered, respectful language when communicating about and with pregnant people experiencing substance use.
  • Apply strategies that support compassionate, harm reduction, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented care for pregnant people navigating substance use.
