Part 3: Essential Skills and Resources for Addressing Perinatal Hypertension

Series Description: This three-series session will empower birth workers to deepen their understanding of maternal hypertension and apply their knowledge and skills to their practice. Participants will gain the confidence and skills to recognize, respond to, and support birthing people at risk of or experiencing perinatal hypertension.

Activity Description: This session reviews the basics identified in the first two parts. The session features a panel discussion on barriers to and opportunities for improvement. In addition, panelists will discuss strategies and tools to provide comprehensive and coordinated care.

Meet the instructor

Kara Hoppe, DO, PhD

Kara Hoppe, DO, PhD, is a maternal-fetal medicine specialist at UW Health and a professor in the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She specializes in high-risk pregnancies and complex maternal medical conditions and is passionate about enhancing knowledge and improving pregnancy-related care.

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:
  • Describe key maternal hypertension tools and resources, including the Hypertension in Pregnancy Change Package and Hear Her Campaign.
  • Demonstrate how to incorporate these tools into practice to support birthing people.
  • Identify additional resources and strategies to enhance maternal hypertension knowledge and skills.
