Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders

Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders can have a significant impact on pregnant people. This presentation will identify the prevalence of and risks for mood and anxiety disorders. It will review signs and symptoms of perinatal depression and anxiety and differentiate between baby blues and postpartum depression. Finally, it will differentiate between intrusive thoughts secondary to anxiety as compared to suicidal or homicidal thoughts.

Meet the instructor

Lizzie Maxwell Hovis, MD

Lizzie Maxwell Hovis, MD is assistant professor psychiatry at the Medical College of Wisconsin where she specializes in perinatal psychiatry. In addition to her clinical roles she is a staff psychiatrist with The Periscope Project. Her academic interests include perinatal substance use.
