Confidential, Anonymous Assessment of Substance Use in Perinatal Persons in Southeastern Wisconsin

Substance use is often underreported and varies by substance used, even among those who self-report substance use. Stigma and legal ramifications may contribute to the underreporting. This presentation will examine the acceptability of confidential and anonymous screening to determine prevalence and characterize the need for substance use prevention and interventions.

Meet the instructor

Alexa Anderson, PhD

Dr. Anderson is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. With a PhD in experimental psychology and postdoctoral training in tobacco regulatory science, her research focuses on substance use, health behaviors, and intimate partner violence among marginalized and at-risk populations.

  • Describe behavioral trajectories across the perinatal continuum.
  • Describe the acceptability of assessing substance use during the perinatal period.
