The Environment and Reproductive Health: Why What We Eat, Breathe, and Touch Matters

This presentation will provide background on the growing burden of environmental exposures to the pregnant person and the fetus. The presentation will address some environmental hazards, including lead, nitrates, per- and poly-flouroalkyl substances, mercury, and endocrine disrupters (BPA and phthalates). The presentation will address the effect on human milk and longer-term childhood outcomes. Finally, the presentation will describe efforts to lessen the impact.

MEET THE INSTRUCTOR

Susan R. Davidson, MD

Dr. Davidson is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Wisconsin in Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Family Practice. She directed Perinatology at St. Mary’s Hospital (1992–2019) and has longstanding expertise in environmental health. She serves on the Wisconsin Environmental Health Network, Midwest Environmental Advocates, and Wisconsin Birth Defects Surveillance Council.
